LLWCHWR (LOUGHOR)
Rises some 3 miles east of Llandybie on Taircarn Mountain & flows
15 miles south-west through the Glynhir Estate (over a 30’ waterfall) & on
to Ammanford & Pontardulais to Burry Inlet, north of the Gower
Peninsula.
The fishing is very good for sea trout (sewin) as well as brown
trout & salmon.
Salmon & sea-trout runs are reported to be very good. Local
clubs control most of the fishing. Tickets are available from Tightlines
Direct in Ammanford.
AMMAN
A tributary of the Llwchwr, this river is very fast running. The
fishing is trout & sea trout.
MARLAIS BROOK
Also a tributary of the Llwchwr in Llandybie, the fishing is wild
brown trout. There is a good brook upstream for dry fly.
TEIFI
The river Teifi flows down the mountainside from Teifi pools to
Pontrhydfendigaid, through moorland & quiet pastures to its
estuary below the own of Cardigan, a 75-mile journey through white
water gorges & deep, mysterious pools.
Richest of the West Wales rivers, the Teifi holds good stocks
of salmon, sewin (it is second only to the Towy) and brown trout,
and the fly life there is fascinatingly varied. As well as the
usual olives and yellow may duns; you will find March browns and
mayflies on several stretches.
In April the grannom sedge hatch is truly spectacular, making
this an ideal dry fly river right from the very start of the season
and justly deserving of its title ‘Queen of the Welsh Rivers’
TOWY
The world famous Towy can provide superb fishing. The Towy has
gained its reputation with night fishing for large sea trout and
is arguably the best ‘sea-trout’ river in Britain.
The Towy travels 60 miles from its source in the Cambrian Mountains, through
Carmarthen, Llandovrey & Llandeilo. Above Llandovrey the river is characterised
by rocky gorges and tree lined pools. On its middle & lower reaches, this
powerful river with its broad racing glides and deep pools is ideal for night
fishing. There the wading is mainly on gravel, and in many places fishing from
the bank is possible.
The Towy produces many double figure sea trout, with April/May
being the best time of year for specimen sea trout. The smaller
school sea-trout, from1.5lb & upwards run from late May /Early
June onwards.
The back end of the season is the best time for salmon and the lower beats
in particular are very productive.
The Towy offers excellent value for money fishing.
